REVIEW: Mirror's Edge Demo

I just recently downloaded EndWar and Mirror's Edge from the PlayStation Store and I must say that these demos are worth your HDD space.

I first played Mirror's Edge and the first thing I took notice was the visuals. So clean and crisp it was amazing to look at. The controls were fairly easy to get used to since there are only a few buttons to do the actions.

In the first half of the demo, you go through a very linear training which shows you everything your character can do such as scaling walls, jumping gaps, jumping over obstacles, and balancing on poles. It was very easy but the only thing I had trouble with was positioning myself perfectly for jumps because I cannot see my feet and I didn't know whether it was the right moment to jump or not but I got the feel of where my feet were as I played along.

In the second half, you are brought to a prologue mission which is probably the first mission in the game maybe. You are to use everything you've learned during the training exercise. It felt really short because in the second half of the mission you are constantly running away from the boys in blue atop of the city rooftops. The cinematics look just like the gameplay but the animation on the other character's faces could be worked on but other than that, everything was nice.

During the demo I just wanted to run and jump around carelessly without being penalized. I figured out a way where I can do as much jumping around as I can without starting over. During the training exercise, after you jump over the barbed wire, and use the jumping pad. Right after you climb onto the roof before you try your combat exercise, immediately turn left and climb onto the roof. There you can run around the WHOLE training ground for as long as you want only if you don't go to the roof where your partner is. I found myself spending about an hour just running around seeing what I can do and where I can go.

At first I wasn't going to buy this game but this demo really got me interested. There is also a time trial mode which has its own leaderboards server provided by the developers. But the only way you can play it is by pre-ordering the game which will give you a code. That is very smart marketing move by the developers since it makes its user want to play more.
