Life with PlayStation

For some reason, after I'm done playing a game I can't just turn of my PS3 because I don't want to "waste time" by turning it on, signing in, and scrolling to the right and all that junk, even though it only takes about 10 seconds to do all of those. But I usually take around two hour breaks between playing videogames after long periods of time so I just leave my PS3 on so it'll be ready right when I come back to it.

Now that can be called as a waste of energy, but at the same time I'm also helping to find a cure for cancer. How, you ask? There was a program called "Folding @ Home" for PlayStation users that ran while they let their PS3 sit idle, it ran through numerous simulations of protein folds. It is a research conducted by Stanford University, which uses people's PS3 as separate computers to conduct these simulations on their own server.

A while ago there was an update for the program which turned it into "Life with PlayStation". It is a new and updated program which delivers content such as worldwide news and information centering on two themes, "place" and "time" on a world map interface and at the same time conducting the same simulations as it did before.

"Some of the live content includes; cloud imagery (provided by the University of Wisconsin-Madison Space Science and Engineering Center), along with weather information (provided by The Weather Channel), news headlines (provided by Google News™), and live camera images (partially provided by The Earth Television Network) of nearly 60 cities around the globe. Through LIVE CHANNEL, PS3 users will be able to enjoy worldwide news and live information free of charge. In addition to LIVE CHANNEL, Life with PlayStation will continually deliver a wide variety of interactive content and channels to living rooms through the network connected PS3s to further enhance the world of entertainment made possible by PS3. You can download this program as "Folding @ Home" from your XMB under the network column and it will update it to "Life with PlayStation"

I highly recommend this program because statistics showed that the program increased scientist's research by 15 years and at the same time providing users real time news and imagery.
